Global Business Executive
John is a Chemical Engineering graduate from University College Dublin, who has had a very varied career across a number of industries and has lead a collection of global businesses, living in a number of different countries along the way.
John started his career in the gold industry with Anglo America, moving to Africa after graduating. Having spent some 3 years in Africa John returned to the UK and joined Unilever in his first leadership role, heading up manufacturing in their adhesive division.
In 1990 John joined Burmah Castrol and over the following 10 years led their global car care division and then the European arm of the Castrol lubricants business.
Following the acquisition of Castrol by BP in 2000, John embarked on a number of global CEO roles within BP including CEO of BP LPG business, Head of Strategic Accounts, President of BP refining and marketing on the US west coast as well as Head of the wider BP retail business.
On leaving BP in 2017, John took up the role of leading Adnoc Distribution in Abu Dhabi, which involved successfully leading the largest IPO across the UAE in late 2017 and for the subsequent 2-years.
On moving back to the UK, John has taken up a number of senior board positions including the EG Group as well as chair of GripHero and luminary advisor to Accenture.
In 2019 John was awarded the distinguished luminary award for Engineering and Architecture from his alma mater UCD. John is married with 3 children and in his spare time enjoys golf, football and reading.
