Ambassador Ilan Sztulman

Ilan Sztulman is a senior diplomat in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs with extensive experience in business, government, security, and strategic communications. He recently returned to Israel from Buenos Aires after serving as the country’s ambassador to Argentina for the last three years, and is currently posted in Dubai as Head of Mission of Israel's newly opened consulate. As the Israeli Ambassador to Argentina, Sztulman managed a staff of over 50 diplomatic, consular, and security personnel. During his time in Argentina he expanded Israel’s relationship with all levels of the Argentine government and was awarded the highest decoration of the Argentinian government for a foreign citizen.

Sztulman grew up in Sao Paolo, Brazil and made Aliyah to Israel in 1978. He served in one of the Israel Defense Forces' most elite units and achieved the rank of Major. In 1981, he received IDF’s Medal for Distinguished Service for bravery in combat operations. His early career was in the photography business. He worked with advertising agencies as a professional photographer and owned and managed a chain of photography stores in Israel. After working as an IDF liaison to the Israeli Foreign Ministry as part of his reserve duty, he joined the ministry full time in 2001. He built and managed a new department within the ministry to design, create, and disseminate online content in English, French, and Spanish. He also served as spokesperson for the ministry and worked with international media. He was then promoted to be Deputy Director Public Affairs Department, responsible for offensive and defensive web initiatives in the social media outlets, where he constructed a task force to fight the Iranian effort to get nuclear capabilities. He was then appointed to be Israel’s Consul General in Sao Paolo Brazil. After serving in Brazil, Sztulman was appointed to be Minister of Public Affairs at the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC. In his role in Washington, he forged relationships with prominent national political organizations and oversaw public diplomacy and campus based initiatives across the United States. Ilan worked closely with Hispanic and evangelical communities all over the country. His next post was Ambassador of Israel in Argentina and after that the Head of Mission of the first consulate of Israel in the UAE. Sztulman is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Hebrew.
